** Note-This is a nice, small airport. It has a sit down restaurant and a few fast food establishments. We have flown into Leon International Airport and Mexico City International Airport, many times. It is much easier to fly into Leon. It is a lot closer, has a lot less traffic and no vehicle restrictions.
I suggest if you have to fly in and out of Mexico City, take a bus to San Miguel. The buses in Mexico are very clean and luxurious. Do not drive into Mexico City unless you have the correct license plates (see below). It can be a very costly venture!
In an attempt to reduce air pollution in Mexico City, Mexican law restricts all motor traffic including vehicles of tourists in Mexico City. For vehicles of non-Mexican registration, the restriction is based on the last digit of the license plate. For example, you are allowed to drive in Mexico City on Monday if the last digit on your license plate ends in either 5 or 6, see table below.

For Mexico City Residents, the schedule is determined by the color band on the license plate. This law is strictly enforced and uniformly applied – even to foreign visitors arriving in their own private autos or rental cars. Heavy fines can be incurred (up to $300 USD or vehicle impoundment). Location: It is located 8 miles (13km) east of Mexico City. From central Mexico City take Fray Servando Avenue northbound, left into Rio Churubusco and follow the signs to the airport.

**Note: There are Hotels at the airport and nearby. If your flight arrives in the early evening or at night, I highly suggest that you stay at one of these hotels and begin your journey into San Miguel in the morning. Mexico City is a very easy city to get lost in and it can be quite dangerous!
