Local Transportation around San Miguel
Local Bus Service-
Best to wait on the street corner or at a speed bump (or tope). There are four different bus carriers in San Miguel so you must ask the bus driver if he if going to your destination.
Cost is $5 Peso
Taxi-
Taxis are abundant in San Miguel. They are not metered. There is a flat rate of $20 pesos around downtown and $25 pesos after dark. It cost a little more to go to some of the outlying areas such as Los Frilaes, $ 50 pesos.
Driving-
Driving around downtown San Miguel is a nightmare. The cobble stone streets are very narrow, made for donkeys and foot traffic. On the weekends and during festive days it is complete gridlock. There is little to no parking. It is highly suggested that you walk, take a taxi or city bus. *Note the city is built into the side of a mountain, think San Francisco but with very uneven or absent sidewalks. Definitely bring good walking shoes. Most of the prime attractions are within walking distance.
