Taking a child to Mexico
If you are taking a minor child to Mexico there are some rules you must be aware of before you go.
- If you are the parent traveling without the other parent, then you must have a notarized consent from the absent parent.
- If you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle etc.. you must have a notarized consent from both parents.
- If a parent is absent or refuses permission, a court order can replace a notarized statement.
- If there is only 1 parent and he or she is not on the birth certificate then the birth certificate is proof enough.
* Note to obtain a passport for a minor child under the age of 14 go to the U.S. Department of State website to access the the most current information. http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/minors/minors_834.html
